According to Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Nintendo is set to end production on the Wii U and its accessories before the end of 2016. Here is the article in Japanese, if that’s your thing. There are probably still about a trillion Wii U’s sitting in a warehouse somewhere, so there will still be plenty of consoles to go around for the foreseeable future.
This would point favorably to rumors of Nintendo’s NX portable system releasing this year, and the Wii U’s successor coming next year.
